Paula in Walla Walla
In a long-time family weekend tradition, we typically tune in to hear “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me“, NPR’s popular weekly comic news quiz. Often guesting is Paula Poundstone — who host Peter Sagal says may be the funniest woman in America and is certainly one of our favorite laugh-getters, so when she was set to appear locally we didn’t hesitate to get tickets. Her show took place in the historic GESA PowerHouse Theatre. The venue provides seating for 300 in a 120-year-old repurposed structure. We turned out to be in good company, demographically-speaking, as the audience was perhaps 98 percent gray-hair and were overwhelmingly self-reported as public radio listeners.
