This weekend, Ivi made a fast trip home from Portland to…

• restore her hair color (aided by now-EOU-student friend Olivia),
• pickup her renovated bicycle (now equipped with new city tires, Portland-rain-appropriate fenders, a quick on-off shopping basket and fresh lube & adjustments),
• spend time visiting and haunted-house-adventuring with old friends,
• listen to Dad’s latest music,
• regale us with all manner of tales of mystery and wonder and adventure,
• gather food & cooking supplies, and
• cook, cook, cook.

Hardly had she arrived but we found ourselves Sunday morning watching her load up Jordan’s truck for the return trip (they had one final stop: breakfasting with Grandma Janet), and it was all over.  For now.  But plans were made, involving considerable logistics, for a Thanksgiving rendezvous right back here.

 

Last week we made the sixteen-hour round trip to Klamath Falls, ensconcing Nik as a Software Engineering student at OIT (Oregon Institute of Technology).   Between Nik’s customary aversion to being subjected to photography and his desire to undertake almost all formalities on his own, leaving his parents on their own, very little documentation was generated.  Here is some:

The other day Kim reported hearing some rustling sounds outside and looked up just in time to see this happen:

Just an early glimpse of Ivi’s dorm and her room.  Her RA pops in, we get some of the stuff unpacked and kick back a bit to enjoy the verdant forest view.  We were surprised to find a decent amount of storage, and discovered that the kitchen — stove, full-size refrig, microwave, cabinets, etc.(can’t find my pictures of this) —  is directly across the hall with the bathroom almost as close. Only partially unpacked, we await decor refinements as they occur.

Yesterday, Ivi was ensconced in her new life at Lewis & Clark.  We met her RA, saw her dorm room, encountered many helpful and enthusiastic students (including members of the women’s cross-country team who insisted on helping us offload and stash baggage and belongings in the 2nd floor dorm room), and generally were smitten by the whole experience.  A few more photos will follow as time permits.

In an attempt to document the family before everyone springs off to college, we engaged Karen (the *best* pro kid & baby shooter for many miles around) to do the heavy lifting.  Took place after work Friday night.  We’ll know the results later on.  But, in the meantime, a good time was had by all.
