rDay Three-Hundred-Eighty-Eight
rDay Three-Hundred-Eighty-Two
This morning we head up Bushnell Trail and on to Glass Hill Ridge to visit “Kim’s Spot” (which I had never seen) and have outdoor brunch. On the way, we walk and chat with the Bushnell property owner (a pistol-packing woman of well beyond my age who was quite friendly and welcoming but soon left us behind in her dust, but not before telling us of how a bear chased her dog and relating other incidents of her family’s encounters with cougar, wolves and other wildlife). We took in sweeping-vista views of the valley, easily encompassing all three peaks, Mt. Emily, Mt. Harris and Mt. Fanny. Turns out that Kim’s Special Spot affords the best views we have seen yet. Two or so hours well spent, even if the world doesn’t need yet another picture of Mt. Emily …

Retraction / Correction
Yesterday’s post characterized Kim and Charlie as “lost”. Kim offers an alternative, purportedly more accurate account: She and Charlie followed marked trails from a jumping off point on the southerly side of the mountain for a considerable distance through all sorts of terrain. But after an hour and a half or so, Kim realized that she was too tired and too far from the starting point to return the same way, and reckoned that heading in the Mt. Glen direction would bring her out of the trails and near a main road on the northerly side much more quickly with much less expenditure of time and remaining energy. So that’s what happened!

Superbloom
My desire to return to Death Valley was greatly heightened during the past months as I uncovered a good many old negatives of that locale taken in the 1970s. Then the weather sites started predicted a once-in-a-decade (or more) “superbloom” event for this winter/spring arising from El Nino weather and rain. Today I came across these videos:
