On The Cloning Of Ivi

Today, Ivi took on a new project …

Well … great natural window light today, but nobody would wait long enough to let me grab the tripod for the needed long exposure …

So, anyway, this morning Ivi showed up with a couple of her friends and they — no boys allowed for a while — proceeded to cover Ivi in a layer of saran wrap followed by a layer or more of duct tape.  The outcome was a sort of armature or dress dummy (dubbed Viola)  to be used in Ivi’s project to design and fabricate her own prom dress from recycled whatever.  More project documentation:

More documentation may emerge over the life of the project.

Happy Camp

This week — no sooner than she had returned from Wallowa Woodwinds music camp — Ivi is off with two cohort/designees to Portland where they will attend an Honors Symposium (“Happy Camp”) at University of Portland (or was it Portland State University) until the middle of next week.  Here are the five photos required in her admission materials:

Ivcalula and the Wallowa Woodwinds

Today we picked up Ivi from her weeklong stint with the Woodwinds @ Wallowa Lake music camp.  The grand finale was a three-hour concert at Joseph High, where Ivi’s sax quartet — Ivcalula — performed a wholly unique, sassy, jazzy number which had each member stroll in while playing, then exit in the same way.

Later on, all of the saxophones (30 or so of them) played a killer piece that blew the roof off the place.  Ivi was selected to play second soprano saxophone on that one.

Finally, it was all over with a massed performance by all 80-odd woodwind players, where Ivi became invisible.

Day 01 – Iowa Or Bust

La Grande to Lewiston ID

After a harrowing drive through the switchbacks in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, we finally emerge at Lewiston. Not documented, unfortunately, as I was driving … we received a police escort to the motel after we got lost; Kim asked one of Lewiston’s finest, who was apparently on a donut run, for directions and he said “follow me”. Prowling for restaurants, we met some local hot rodders with an incredible 1929 Essex-based street rod. Returning to our motel after seeking respite from the 97-degree heat by dining in El Sombero, we find that Mr. and Mrs. Parker brought their old Ford pickup here so that they, too, could enjoy Inn America’s wi-fi …
