Endeavor Across L.A.

The LA Times’ multimedia Framework section documents the 12-mile trip this past weekend of the space shuttle Endeavor across city streets from LAX to the California Science Center.   The Endeavor crossed the 405 Freeway and traversed familiar streets like Crenshaw, Manchester, Sepulveda and La Tijera, through communities including Westchester and Inglewood before arriving at the downtown Exposition Park destination.  This downtown location, near Figueroa across from USC and the Coliseum, was a frequent venue visited by Nik and Ivi when they were very, very young.

Here you can also see an earlier panorama of Endeavor in September when it arrived at LAX.

Finally, find this backstory on LA Times’ photographer Gary Friedman’s now-famous shot of the Endeavor juxtaposed over the Hollywood sign.

This One Rings True

Last night, we were joined by Nik, Ivi & Jordan in watching the first season of Portlandia via Netflix stream.  Highly recommended, by the way, whether you are familiar with Portland or not.  The second season starts this week.  We — speaking mainly of Nik and myself — are big Battlestar Galactica fans, so I was particularly amused by this preview clip from the upcoming second season:
