Around here, we’ve loved Miranda July ever since seeing her wonderful film, “Me and You and Everyone We Know” in 2005. But we didn’t know that she could be a management guru, too. Here’s some of her advice:

Elena Shumilova Does It Right
Pets and children. A realm of photography that I seldom pursue, and almost never can do well when I might try.
Sometimes I stumble upon someone who has it nailed. While browsing through Flickr, I come upon one Elena Shumilova. Turns out that she is a Russian mother who takes pictures daily, mostly of her kids on her farm, using the first camera she got in 2012. Take a look at this photostream.
Kate Tempest
Last night we saw Brit rapper/poet/spoken word artist Kate Tempest on Charlie Rose’s This Week PBS program. Watch this amazing woman now:
See more video performances and much more on Tempest’s web site.

Letters of Note
Yesterday, after seeing a piece on BBC News lamenting the decline in the social art of letter writing, Ivi and I visited a site mentioned in the piece, Letters of Note. Great stuff; a collection, so far, of over 900 remarkable letters.
Elmore Leonard, R.I.P.
In honor of the passing of Elmore Leonard last week, we watched “Jackie Brown” last night, the only Leonard-associated film we could readily identify for Netflix streaming. Pretty entertaining; would have to be one of the best blaxploitation films of that era, IMHO. Probably one of Quentin Tarantino’s more subdued efforts.
Equally as entertaining was Elmore’s 2009 conversation with Charlie Rose, snippets of which aired on PBS last Friday night. The transcript of the complete interview — featuring Leonard’s interesting tips for good writing — may be found at the Elmore Leonard website.
