Backstory: I’ve seen this car around town for several months, but today is the first time I’ve talked to the owner (who moved from Southern California in January of this year). The car was made over three years ago in tribute to N.D.’s then-four-year-old niece who was diagnosed with cancer. Her heroes were Superman and Batman. Originally used as a gimmick in fundraising and now available for parties and fundraisers, as the niece has recovered.

This photograph by the local newspaper’s chief photographer was taken of downtown WaWaWA yesterday when the Air Quality Index read 224, deep into the purple (“Very Unhealthy”) zone. Today it sits at 187, barely nudging its way into the red (“Unhealthy”) zone.
