Here’s a piece worth reading, imo, from the Washington Monthly:
And some commentary on the article from Quartz.

rDay Thirteen-Hundred-Ninety
Most of the time we stay close to home. Today we needed to make a quick trip across the state line to Milton-Freewater (pop. ~7000). A quick drive through with “windshield” (aka drive-by) photography follows. Will probably return later for a more serious effort, with appropriate lenses, more time and afoot.
More Bird Photography
More from local Audubon member, Earl Blackaby: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMountainAudubonWallaWallaWa/posts/1956637987716814
Also look for photo work by Paul Treman on the Audubon FB page. And there are lots of other images on the site that should be of great interest to any bird enthusiast.
As passed on to me by Kim.

Perhaps you saw the POTD poem on January 9 on brother Dennis’ Little Free Library (also see here).
Today I happened to come upon this piece, with video, on a special Little Library in Idaho.

Bird Photography Done REALLY Right
As a followup to a previous posting, you can see a few bird images among the winners of the annual Wiki Loves Earth competition. For example, here is the twelfth place winner, from Bangladesh:

Bird Photography Done Right
Kim recently joined or maybe is investigating the possibility of joining the local Audubon group of birding enthusiasts. On her Charlie-walks, she takes binoculars and a bird ID app on her phone and exhibits other birding-intense behavior. As I occasionally capture the odd bird (mostly crows) on my own photo-walks using a short (i.e., wrong) lens, handholding and hoping for luck, she has pointed me to the Audubon group’s Facebook page where some excellent photo work is shown. For example, click through on, and take a look at the half-dozen or so images in the January 4 posting at this link:

In stark contrast, this is about as good as my bird photography gets or is ever likely to get:
