Elmore Leonard, R.I.P.

In honor of the passing of Elmore Leonard last week, we watched “Jackie Brown” last night, the only Leonard-associated film we could readily identify for Netflix streaming. Pretty entertaining; would have to be one of the best blaxploitation films of that era, IMHO.  Probably one of Quentin Tarantino’s more subdued efforts.

Equally as entertaining was Elmore’s 2009 conversation with Charlie Rose, snippets of which aired on PBS last Friday night. The transcript of the complete interview — featuring Leonard’s interesting tips for good writing — may be found at the Elmore Leonard website.

First it’s off at the crack of dawn to Walla Walla to catch Jason and retrieve the P-Car. Then it’s on to Richland where we offroad through orchards, mud and dust and finally arrive at the U-Pick peach farm. Leaving the Gatherers to do what they do best, Nik and Dad buzz home, sunroof off through the rolling hills and mountains, having discharged their Hunter role and duties. A few hours later, Ivi and Mom arrive with the bounty and furiously throw themselves into cooking and canning exploits.
